KAIĀULU 'O KAHALU'U

A GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION

KAIĀULU 'O KAHALU'U

Kaiāulu ʻo Kahaluʻu is a grassroots community organization established in 2021  to serve, organize, and uplift Kahaluʻu community voices. It is our mission to mālama the people, resources, history, wahi pana, and community well being of the Kahaluʻu ahupua’a on Oʻahu. Our vision is to be an established collective of voices to advocate for the Kahaluʻu community. We are currently focusing on stewarding the Kahalu'u Lo'i under an agreement with the State Historic Preservation Division and are fiscally sponsored by the Pacific American Foundation.

BACKGROUND

The Kahalu'u Lo'i is located in the 'ili of 'Āhuimanu within the ahupua'a of Kahalu'u. This ancient Hawaiian agricultural complex is the largest intact terraced lo'i system on O'ahu & the best example of Kanaka Maoli expertise in this type of engineering.
